This week's picks for Stuttgart

Matt Hagen's rise from Gotham street kid to leading man gets cut short by a crime boss and a disfiguring injury, then an experimental treatment sends him spiraling into all-consuming revenge. Taika Waititi turns the story of Klara, an Artificial Friend longing for the perfect home, into something quietly radiant, and the bond she forms with Josie slowly thaws a grieving family. It is science fiction with a soft heart, full of innocent wonder and the kind of emotional ache that lingers. You will walk out holding hands and asking each other what loyalty and love really mean. Jenna Ortega, Amy Adams, and Natasha Lyonne anchor the warmth.

This animated fantasy comedy follows best friends Jo and Raissa, who stumble through a portal to the fantastical island of Nakali and must find a way home before they forget each other forever. With warm humor, plenty of adventure, and a big heart, it is an easy win for kids and grown-ups together. Rated PG, it earns a glowing 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
